Tours – Food Romps

We do food romps in many major cities in Malaysia – you have to name your city, name your food choices and allergies, and we will take you on, at least, a 6-coffeeshop tour, only ordering 1 or 2 bowls of the local specialty in each shop so you can try everything and not feel full.

We have special expertise in catering for the halal food tourist, being ourselves inundated by tour requests from Muslim customers – we have taken great pains to identify most of the halal shops that still serve great, authentic local food in each location we cover.

We are especially well-positioned to do:

  • Penang

Penang is by far the foodie capital of the country; and with our extensive interests in Penang (having been there on recon tours too often for our own good), we can point you in the direction of our favourite nasi kandar, fried kuey teow, laksa Penang…and the list simply goes on for far too long.

  • Melaka

Melaka has a rich tradition of diverse food outlets, and we are especially well-placed in this respect, having many links to it – the Hainanese chicken rice, Nyonya food, and cendol are cases in point.

  • Kuala Lumpur

Being the capital city, there is a rich cornucopia of food here for the taking. We know the major neighbourhoods intimately, and the kinds of food that they specialise in – we can take you to chief Chinese, Malay or Indian cuisine zones to savour the local delights. We can even, with enough prodding – and money! – do international or fusion food tours.

  • Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu is an interesting mishmash of the respective influences of the many areas in Sabah, all separated by huge distances, thus leading to development of unique types of food in every location. We offer the best locations to savour Tuaran mee, fish-based noodles, Beaufort cuisine, Kadazan traditional food, and a lot of Sarawakian food not available over in West Malaysia.

  • Kuching

Kuching has a rich – and certainly unique – food culture of its own. Having spent 7 days in Kuching on a quasi-food tour, we know where to take you for your fix of pork noodles, Sarawak laksa, tomato mee, kueh chap, seafood, and Foochow red wine chicken noodles.

  • Miri

but can offer other towns if the need arises - we have an intrepid team of local researchers that are up to the task when commissioned.
