Tours – Mountain Climbs
Our CEO is an avid mountain climber – so are many of our staff members, and there is nothing we love more dearly than to take you go mountain climbing, the budget way.
By “budget”, we mean paying RM 80 instead of RM 250 to climb Gunung Tahan. (Which we DID do, mind you. At the expense of our sanity, having to sleep overnight on the floor of a coffeeshop 7 km from the National Park entrance.)
We will gladly lead you on mountain climbs, not just Kinabalu, but the other mountains in Malaysia that have long escaped notice.
Kinabalu
2D 1N ex-Kota Kinabalu
Highest mountain in Malaysia, and, some still maintain, South-East Asia; but otherwise, we’re talking about 2 days of sheer biting cold. We will take you up this mountain; but bookings NEED to be made 6 months in advance, at the very least, due to the competition we’re talking about here to climb it.
Trusmadi, Sabah
2D 1N ex-Tambunan (60 km from Kota Kinabalu)
The 2nd highest mountain in Malaysia, it IS one tough cookie, but 2 days 1 night (3 days including the 1st night’s incursion into the village at the foot of said mountain) should suffice. We will depart Tambunan on Day 1, attaining the summit that very day, camping there for a magical sunrise the next morning. And, many say, the best (if not most unique) view of Kinabalu money cannot buy. Day 2 is pure descent, and we should be in Tambunan in time for dinner
Tambuyukon, Sabah.
4D 3N ex-Kota Kinabalu
One HELL of a mountain; article available here. You are looking at 4 days, and too many leeches for your own good. Enquire the staff for more details on this horrendous mountain if the travel article does not suffice.
Tahan, Pahang
4D 3N (Merapoh), 7D 6N (Kuala Tahan), 5D 4N (Up Kuala Tahan, down Merapoh or vice versa)
The highest mountain in West Malaysia, and many say, the hardest in Malaysia. Having climbed Tambuyukon, I beg to differ; this is a 56-km trek from Merapoh, near Gua Musang on the Kelantan-Pahang northern border, or a 70-km killer from Kuala Tahan, on the east end of the park. Our guides will need to be supplemented with a park guide, due to park regulations, but our guides will assist you with minutae like tent pitching, cooking, and carrying any excess luggage.
Nambuyukon
3D 2N ex-Kota Kinabalu
Related article here; a horribly easy mountain to climb, doable in 1 day indeed – but the first and last day are highly recommended, if only to savour the laidback vibes of the Sorinsim Substation campsite (a lush heaven wedged between two mighty rivers).
Trans-Titiwangsa
4D 3N ex-Ipoh
This trip is an assault on the 2nd, 4th and 5th highest peaks in West Malaysia; so far, none of our guides has done it yet (let’s face it, none of us are a day older than 21) and we would love for any intrepid mountaineers to sign up so we have an excuse to climb it ourselves.
Santubong, Kuching
Day trip ex-Kuching
As you will see here, it’s a simple enough endavour in itself; but its 800 m can be deceptively simple. A good day-trip for those amongst you who don’t feel fully up to a more heavy-duty mountain
Gunung Brinchang/Irau, Cameron Highlands
Day trip ex-Cameron Highlands (Brinchang or Tanah Rata town)
Two relatively easy mountains to scale, Brinchang even accessible by tarred road, just in case. Irau is a good 4 hours further up, but the jungle trail has taken a lot of pounding from the typical tourist and is easily accessible.
